Ayushman Bharat health insurance for senior citizens | Here’s How to apply for Ayushman Bharat card
The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) has recently been expanded to provide health insurance coverage for all senior citizens aged 70 years and above, regardless of their socioeconomic status. This initiative aims to benefit approximately 6 crore senior citizens across 4.5 crore families in India.
Key Benefits
- Health Insurance Coverage: Eligible senior citizens will receive an annual health insurance cover of up to Rs 5 lakh. This coverage is distinct and will not be shared with other family members who are under 70 years of age
- Comprehensive Medical Services: The scheme covers a wide range of medical services, including:
- Medical examinations, treatments, and consultations
- Pre-hospitalization and post-hospitalization care
- Medicines and medical consumables
- Intensive and non-intensive care services
- Diagnostic and laboratory investigations
- Accommodation and food services during hospitalization.
How to Apply
To apply for the Ayushman Bharat card, follow these steps:
- Visit the PMJAY website and click on the “AM I eligible” tab.
- Verify your mobile number by entering the OTP received.
- Select your state and scheme to check your eligibility.
- Register on the NHA’s Setu portal by filling in the required details.
- Complete your KYC process and wait for approval.
- Once approved, you can download your Ayushman card by entering your Aadhar card number and verifying it with an OTP.
Additional Information
- Distinct Card: Eligible senior citizens will receive a new, distinct card under the AB PM-JAY scheme.
- Top-Up Coverage: Those already covered under AB PM-JAY will receive an additional top-up cover of Rs 5 lakh per year.
- Choice of Schemes: Seniors benefiting from other public health insurance schemes can choose to continue with their current scheme or opt for AB PM-JAY.
