As winter tightens its grip, the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) region and Ladakh experienced significant drops in temperatures today, with several locations recording sub-zero levels, especially in the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh. Here’s a detailed report of the minimum temperatures recorded across the regions:

Kashmir Region

The Kashmir Valley witnessed freezing temperatures, with Shopian being the coldest at -4.5°C. Pahalgam and Bandipora followed closely at -4.3°C, while Srinagar, the summer capital, recorded -2.0°C. The high-altitude pass of Zojila plummeted to an icy -19.0°C. Other notable temperatures include:

  • Qazigund: -2.4°C
  • Kupwara: -3.6°C
  • Kokernag: -2.2°C
  • Gulmarg: -3.6°C
  • Sonamarg: -3.5°C
  • Anantnag: -3.6°C
  • Ganderbal: -3.4°C
  • Pulwama: -3.0°C
  • Baramulla: -1.8°C
  • Budgam: -3.1°C
  • Kulgam: -2.9°C
  • Larnoo: -3.9°C

Jammu Region

In contrast to Kashmir, the Jammu region recorded relatively milder temperatures, with Jammu city at 8.1°C and Ramban warmer at 9.4°C. However, higher altitudes like Padder dipped to a chilling -7.2°C, and Banihal recorded -0.4°C. Key temperatures include:

  • Batote: 3.1°C
  • Katra: 7.4°C
  • Bhaderwah: 0.6°C
  • Kishtwar: 4.0°C
  • Kathua: 7.6°C
  • Samba: 4.2°C
  • Udhampur: 4.5°C
  • Poonch: 5.0°C
  • Rajouri: 3.4°C

Ladakh

The cold desert of Ladakh remains in the deep freeze. Leh recorded a low of -9.6°C, while data from Kargil and Drass was not available at the time of compilation.
