Government Announces Extra Ration For Jammu & Kashmir

- Government Order No: 94-JK(FCS&CA) of 2023 (dated July 20, 2023):
- This order outlines the framework for the distribution of foodgrains under the scheme.
- Government Order No: 48-JK (FCS&CA) of 2024 (dated August 16, 2024):
- This recent order specifies that if any Priority Household or AAY family requires additional foodgrains, the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs will provide these at a sale price. This price will include the actual cost of procurement from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) under the Open Market Sale Scheme (Domestic), along with handling charges incurred by the department.

Implementation and Impact
The implementation of this scheme is crucial for ensuring that food security is maintained among the most vulnerable sections of society in Jammu and Kashmir. The government has established a network of 6736 Fair Price Shops (FPS) to facilitate the distribution of subsidized foodgrains, reaching approximately 25.40 lakh ration card holders in the region.
