Jio’s New Recharge Plan: Unlimited calls and 28GB data – A better deal than Airtel?
Reliance Jio recently introduced a tariff hike for its prepaid and postpaid plans, effective from July 3, 2024. The price increase affects various plans, with the most affordable plan now priced at Rs 189, up from Rs 155, marking a 22% rise. Despite the price hike, the plan benefits such as call minutes and data allowance remain unchanged.
Jio Rs 249 Prepaid Plan
The Jio Rs 249 prepaid plan now offers 1GB of daily 4G data, amounting to 28GB over the 28-day validity period. The plan also includes unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day. Although the plan technically provides unlimited data, speeds are reduced to 64kbps once the 28GB threshold is reached, in line with the Fair Usage Policy (FUP).

Jio vs. Airtel: A Comparison
Comparing Jio’s Rs 249 prepaid plan to Airtel’s equivalent, Jio comes out on top in terms of overall value. Both plans offer similar benefits, including 1GB of daily 4G data, unlimited calls, and 100 SMS per day. However, Airtel’s plan falls short in terms of validity, as it is only valid for 24 days, four days less than Jio’s 28-day validity. This means Airtel users receive 24GB of data, compared to Jio’s 28GB, making Jio the more economical choice.
Entry-Level Plans: Jio Rs 189 vs. Airtel Rs 199
Jio continues to lead in affordability with its entry-level Rs 189 prepaid plan, which is cheaper than Airtel’s Rs 199 plan. Both plans offer similar benefits: 2GB of lump-sum 4G data, unlimited voice calls, 100 SMS per day, and a 28-day validity period. However, Jio’s lower price point makes it the better option for users seeking maximum value at minimal cost.
In summary, despite the recent tariff hike, Jio’s prepaid plans continue to offer competitive options for budget-conscious users, with the Rs 249 plan providing 1GB of daily 4G data, unlimited voice calls, and 100 SMS per day over a 28-day validity period, making it a well-rounded option for everyday mobile users.
