J&K Government Issues Phase out of existing fingerprint LO Registered Devices with L1 RD devices from Aadhaar authentication ecosystem
The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has issued a directive regarding the transition from existing Level O (LO) fingerprint Registered Devices (RD) to Level 1 (L1) fingerprint RD devices within the Aadhaar authentication ecosystem. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the security and accuracy of biometric transactions.
Key Details of the Directive
- Date of Circular: September 30, 2024
- Reference: O.M. No. IT-Gen/130/2023 (7139280) dated July 8, 2024, from the Information Technology Department.
- Objective: To upgrade biometric authentication systems to improve accuracy and security, making them suitable for applications requiring heightened security measures.
Features of L1 Fingerprint Registered Devices
The L1 fingerprint RD devices offer several key advantages over the LO devices:
- Improved Accuracy: Enhanced algorithms for better fingerprint matching.
- Enhanced Security: Advanced features that protect against unauthorized access.
- Reliability: More efficient fingerprint authentication processes.
Implementation Guidelines
To ensure a smooth transition:
- All existing LO RD fingerprint devices must be phased out gradually.
- Administrative Secretaries, Deputy Commissioners, and Heads of Departments are instructed to replace LO devices with L1 devices for Aadhaar authentication.
