J&K Home Deptt Constitutes Committee For Adoption Of Model Police Act 2006
The Government of Jammu & Kashmir’s Home Department issued Government Order No. 373-Home of 2024, which sanctioned the formation of an Internal Committee. This committee is tasked with examining and expediting the adoption of the Model Police Act, 2006.

Committee Composition
The committee consists of the following members:
- Chairman: Special Secretary to the Government (RS), Home Department
- Members:
- Special Secretary to the Government (SM), Home Department
- Additional Secretary (S) to the Government, Home Department
- Additional Secretary (ES) to the Government, Home Department
- Financial Advisor/CAO, Home Department
- Deputy Secretary (S), Home Department
- Deputy Secretary (Y), Home Department
- Under Secretary (M), Home Department
- Secretary: Deputy Secretary (S), Home Department
Terms of Reference
The committee has several key responsibilities:
- Review Existing Drafts: It will review the existing drafts of the Jammu & Kashmir Police Bill, 2013, the Jammu and Kashmir Police (Amendment) Bill, 2015, and the current Police Act in relation to the Model Police Act, 2006.
- Stakeholder Engagement: The committee is expected to engage with key stakeholders, including the Police Headquarters, civil society, and legal experts, to gather feedback and address any concerns raised previously.
- Public Consultation: After finalizing the draft, the committee will make it available for public comments and suggestions.
- Timeline: The committee aims to complete its tasks within one month from its constitution date.
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing police legislation in Jammu & Kashmir and ensuring that it aligns with contemporary standards and practices.
