MCC Violation: Police Officer Suspended In Jammu & Kashmir
September 8, 2024: A police officer has been suspended by the Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police 6th Battalion due to a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
Sergeant Mukhtar Ahmad attended a political event organized by an Indian National Congress candidate in Surankote on August 24, 2024, which was deemed a clear breach of the MCC and the Government Employees Conduct Rules of 1971.

Details of the Violation
The Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) for Surankote highlighted in a letter that Sergeant Ahmad’s participation in the political meeting was an “open and blatant violation” of the established guidelines. Photographic evidence showed him seated among the audience, which prompted the ARO to recommend strict disciplinary action.
Consequences of the Violation
As a result of this violation, Sergeant Ahmad was suspended immediately. He has been instructed to return all government-issued items, including his uniform and arms, to the unit store. During his suspension, he will receive a subsistence allowance as per the rules.
Furthermore, a departmental inquiry has been initiated, with Deputy Superintendent Mohammad Azeem assigned to conduct the investigation, and the findings will be forwarded for further action.
This incident reflects the ongoing enforcement of the MCC in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in light of the upcoming elections, where strict adherence to these guidelines is crucial to ensure fair electoral practices.
