During the period from June 1 to August 29, 2024, Jammu and Kashmir experienced significant variations in rainfall, with many districts facing substantial deficits.

Deficit Rainfall Overview

  • Kashmir Division: Recorded a deficit of 50% in rainfall.
  • Jammu Division: Experienced a deficit of 29%

District-Specific Rainfall

  • Despite the overall deficits, certain districts such as Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, Rajouri, Baramulla, and Pulwama reported normal rainfall levels.
  • Conversely, many other districts faced severe deficits. For instance, Poonch district recorded a staggering 95% deficit, receiving only 10 mm of rainfall compared to the average of 201.3 mm.

General Trends

  • The majority of districts in both divisions received below-normal rainfall, contributing to dry conditions across the region. The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) indicated that several areas, including Anantnag and Shopian, fell into the moderately dry category.
  • The overall rainfall from June 1 to July 31 showed a 44% deficit, with Kashmir division alone experiencing a 60.67% deficit.

This rainfall scenario highlights the challenges faced by the region, particularly in terms of agricultural impacts and water resource management.
