In an official statement, the court requested anyone who sights the moon—either with the naked eye or using binoculars—to report their observation to the nearest court or center to have their testimony recorded.
If the moon is seen after the Maghrib (sunset) prayer on February 28, Ramadan will begin on March 1. Otherwise, the holy month will start on March 2.

Ramadan, the ninth and holiest month of the Islamic calendar, is observed by fasting from dawn to sunset. Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and other physical needs during daylight hours. The fast is broken at sunset with the Iftar meal, while the pre-dawn meal before fasting begins is called Suhoor.
