Government Announced heavy penalties will be enforced for traffic violations in India. The new fines and punishments aim to improve road safety and curb reckless driving.

Key Changes in Traffic Fines:

  1. Drunken Driving – A fine of ₹10,000 and/or six months in prison for first-time offenders. Repeat offenders face ₹15,000 and two years of imprisonment.
  2. Helmet and Seat Belt Violations – Riding without a helmet will attract a ₹1,000 fine and a three-month license suspension. Not wearing a seatbelt will also result in a ₹1,000 fine.
  3. Mobile Phone Usage While Driving – The penalty is now ₹5,000.
  4. Driving Without a Valid License – The fine has increased to ₹5,000.
  5. Triple Riding on Two-Wheelers – The fine is ₹1,000.
  6. Driving Without Insurance – ₹2,000 and/or three months in prison along with community service; ₹4,000 for repeat violations.
  7. Lack of a Pollution Certificate – ₹10,000 fine and up to six months in prison with community service.
  8. Dangerous Driving & Speeding – The fine is ₹5,000.
  9. Not Giving Way to Emergency Vehicles – The fine has been raised to ₹10,000.
  10. Overloading – Now carries a hefty ₹20,000 fine.
  11. Signal Jumping – Will be penalized with ₹5,000.
  12. Juvenile Offenders – The new penalty includes ₹25,000 fine, three years of imprisonment, vehicle registration cancellation for a year, and a driving ban until the offender turns 25.
