Tehsildar, Girdawar Arrested in Land Grabbing Case In J&K
The Crime Branch (CB) has arrested four people, including a former Tehsildar and a retired Girdawar, in a land grabbing case. A charge sheet has also been filed in court for judicial review.
A Crime Branch official said that the case came to light after a complaint was filed by one Koushalaya Devi, a resident of Village Dangray in Jammu, who reported that her late husband, a displaced person from 1947, was allotted 72 kanals and 4 marlas of land in Suchetgarh.
However, the accused, along with his father and some revenue officials, illegally transferred and mutated the land into their names, the Crime Branch official said quoting the complainant.
According to him, the accused did this using a fake and forged Adoption Deed, which falsely claimed the accused was the adopted son of the complainant and her husband.
The complainant never appeared before any revenue officer or court for the adoption of deed’s registration or the land mutation, he said.
After receiving the complaint, the CB official said that a preliminary investigation was conducted, leading to the registration of an FIR and the start of a full investigation.
The probe, led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed charges of cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy against eight individuals, he said.
According to the CB official, four of the accused were arrested, two were released on bail, and two are no longer alive.
The Crime Branch has now filed the charge sheet against the accused in the court of the Special Judge Anti-Corruption in Jammu for judicial determination, he said.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Jammu, Benam Tosh, confirmed the completion of the investigation and the filing of the charge sheet in case FIR number 30/2016 under sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, 120-B of the RPC and 5(2) of the PC Act.
