12 Free Gas Cylinders in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday said that the proposal to provide 12 free gas cylinders annually to residents is currently under examination.

In a written reply to a question by Peoples Conference MLA Sajad Gani Lone, Minister in charge of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Satish Sharma, informed the House that the matter is being reviewed.

“The issue is under examination in the government. All efforts are being made to fulfil commitments,” the minister said.

Lone had sought clarification on whether the government intends to provide 12 free gas cylinders annually and, if so, the timeline for its implementation.

The promise to offer 12 free cylinders each year to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in JK was originally included in the National Conference’s manifesto for the 2014 UT elections.

In November last year, Satish Sharma had stated that a formal announcement regarding the provision of 12 free gas cylinders per year would be made soon.

“Modalities are being finalised, and very soon, the formal announcement regarding double ration and 12 gas cylinders will be made public,” he had said. (KNO)
