Airtel Users Getting 5G Services For Free: Here’s How to check

Airtel has become the first telecom company in India to offer 5G services. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G services on October 1, Airtel announced that it will initially start by offering services in 8 cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Nagpur and Siliguri and Bangalore.

More subscribers in eligible circles are now receiving Airtel’s 5G Plus services. In Delhi and other cities, including Gurugram, Chennai, and more, 5G services were visible on compatible handsets, according to a number of Twitter users and a member of the India Today Tech team.

Twitter reports show that customers were occasionally experiencing download speeds of 732 Mbps and 465 Mbps. According to tweets, the first was seen in Chennai, while the second was seen in Gurugram. This is decent but not as fast as what 5G is promised to be. This could be due to a number of reasons, but the most obvious could be poor 5G strength in our location

Interestingly, users who gained 5G connectivity on smartphones were not charged extra. According to several reports, the Airtel SIM is 5G-enabled and existing users don’t need to get their SIM replaced. However, those using very old Airtel SIMs or those willing to get a new Airtel connection will have to get a new SIM. Even those porting to Airtel from other telecom networks will be getting a new SIM that will be 4G as well as 5G-enabled.

On the other hand, Airtel 5G is only available on Android phones and iPhones are said to get the connectivity support later this year through a software update, despite having a 5G modem under the hood.

Bharti Enterprises founder and chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal said that Airtel will roll out 5G services in most parts of the country by March 2023 and cover entire India by March 2024.

How To Test Airtel 5G on Your Smartphone

Airtel’s 5G or 5G Plus services are started in eight circles. You must first determine whether your phone is 5G compatible. Finding the model number and reviewing the specifications on the official website would be the simplest method. The phone does not support 5G if there is no mention of it in the network section.

Users can then download the official Airtel app from the relevant app store and tap on the box that says “Check if your phone is 5G enabled” right on the Home page. When you click on that, the app will request your location. The software will then inform you whether or not your phone is 5G compatible.
