Eng Vs Pak: England Creates History Today In World Cricket Against Pakistan

England on Thursday became the first team in history to score at least 500 runs on Day 1 of a Test. England crossed the 500-run mark in the 75th over in their first innings on Day 1 of Rawalpindi Test against Pakistan

England to score 500 runs on the opening day of a Test, led by Crawley (122 off 111), Duckett (107 off 110), Pope (108 off 104) and Brook (101no off 81).

The previous record for runs on the first day was the 494 Australia accumulated against South Africa in Sydney in 1910. More than 500 runs in a day has only been achieved on four other occasions — three times by England and once by Sri Lanka but never on the opening day of a Test. The record is the 588 England ran up on day two of a test against India in 1936.

Pakistan had briefly fought back in the second session when they dismissed Duckett, Crawley and Joe Root (23) in the space of 53 runs, but that was shortlived.

Debutant leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood was the most successful Pakistan bowler with 2-160 on a pitch similar to the one used against Australia earlier this year.

That pitch was declared  “below average” by the match referee after it yielded 1,187 runs for the loss of just 14 wickets over five days.

Pakistan for the first time in history, went to play a Test against England with 4 debutants. The four new Test caps were given to Mohammad Ali, Saud Shakil, Haris Rauf and Zahid Mahmood.
