Petrol And Diesel Prices Giving Relief Amid Rising Prices Of Lentils

The prices of flour, pulses, rice, and other items have increased continuously in recent times. Meanwhile, the stable prices of petrol and diesel are giving a lot of relief to the people. Petrol and diesel prices have remained stable for more than five months now.

Petrol, Diesel Prices Today on 20 September

The petrol and diesel prices remain unchanged across metro cities for the 122nd day in a row on Tuesday i.e. September 20, except in Maharashtra. The fuel prices were slashed in Maharashtra after the state government lowered the value added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 3 per litre, respectively, on July 14.

Petrol and diesel in Delhi cost Rs 96.72 and Rs 89.62 a litre, respectively. In Mumbai, petrol is being sold for Rs 106.31 per litre and diesel for Rs 94.27. Petrol and diesel are priced at Rs 102.63 and Rs 94.24 in Chennai and at Rs 106.03 and Rs 92.76 in Kolkata.

The last country-wide change in price came on 21 May 2022, when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a cut in excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and Rs 6 per litre on diesel. Since then, Maharashtra is the only state to have cut rates. The Maharashtra government had announced a cut in value-added tax (VAT) on petrol by Rs 5 a litre and by Rs 3 a litre for diesel in July.

Yesterday, oil fell by more than two per cent, pressured by expectations of weaker global demand and by US dollar strength ahead of possible large increases to interest rates, though supply worries limited the decline
